Important beaches

Qeshm Island has many beaches. One of the unique features of these beaches is their structural diversity, as there are rocky, sandy, muddy, and mangrove beaches at the same time, in one place on this island. Some of the Qeshm beaches are as follows: Zeytoon, Naz, Simin, Suza, Shib Deraz, Mesen, Salakh, Dustaku, Rigu rocky beach (turtle beach)

Cultural landscape

One of the attractive cultural views of this region is their special social customs of the residences, like wedding ceremony, funeral, great feasts and celebrations, praying for rain, local and traditional celebrations such as Nowruz Sayad, Shrimp feast, Date palms celebration, Persian Gulf inhabitants’ Culture and Civilization Celebration (Laft), etc. which can be used as a factor in attracting tourists to this area.

Local community

Mos of the residents of this island are Sunni’s people (Shafi’i). Religiousness is very meaningful to them and they teach their children how to pray God, fast, and recite Quran from early childhood.

Events

Every year, some ceremonies are held in this island according to the region’s customs which some of them are as follows:

Moloudi Khani

Moloudi Khani is a ceremony that begins after Isha prayer in mosques and continues until late at night. Some of these ceremonies are: the birth of the Prophet (PBUH) on the 12th of Rabi 'al-Awal for the Sunnis, the Mi'raj of the Prophet on the night of 27th of Rajab, Eid al-Fitr on the first of Shawwal, Eid al-Adha on the 10th of Dhu al-Hijjah.

Nowruz Sayad

One of the most famous events in Qeshm is Nowruz Sayad, which is held in July. This event is more than 600 years old and is very important to people, especially fishermen. On this day, no fisherman has the right to fish and even eating fish is forbidden. People believe that on this day all the fish are free and as they have to breed to make their generation bigger, nobody is allowed to fish. This shows that people who live in the south of Iran have a good knowledge about the sea and from long time ago during the spawning season of fish and shrimps, people have tried not to harm their habitat. Delicious foods are prepared and different competitions are held on this day.

Hoisting the sails

This ceremony is one of the historical and traditional rituals of the people in Laft which is the symbol of maritime trade and the booming of shipping in this region. The ceremony begins with the praise of the Prophet Muhammad and the Imams and continues with traditional music and Razif Khani and ends with hoisting the sails of the ships. During the past few hundred years, the people and the merchants of this island have sailed to Africa, India and other countries and they always hoist the sails before starting their voyage. The time for performing this ceremony is chosen according to the decision of the officials.

Area guides

In some areas, the indigenous people are present, and in other places and some sightseeing, there are expert guides who help to introduce that tourist attraction to travelers.

Environmental damage

Qeshm Island is very valuable because of its aquatic habitats, turtles and mangrove forests, so it must be well protected. Existence of industrial fishing systems can have devastating effects on these ecosystems, and on the other hand, the presence of tourists more than the capacity of the region and the lack of attention to the effects and pollution caused by human activities can all be important factors damaging the island.
